Remove Blank Lines
Delete the empty lines from any text, or collapse the extra ones into a single blank line. Cleans up lists, exports and content that arrived double spaced.
About this tool
This tool removes blank lines from a text, eliminating unnecessary vertical spaces without altering the order or the content of the remaining lines. It is ideal for cleaning lists, exports, text files, and any content that has been copied with unwanted spacing. You can choose between two cleaning modes. Removing all blank lines eliminates all empty spaces, leaving the lines consecutive, ideal for lists and data that will be imported into spreadsheets, systems, or databases. Reducing blank lines preserves a single empty line between text blocks, maintaining visual separation while removing only the excess spacing.
To join sentences that were split across several lines, use Remove Line Breaks.
What the tool does
When to use it
- Lists before an importLists of emails, names, URLs, or codes gathered from different sources often contain blank lines between items. When importing this content into a tool, form, or mailing platform, each empty line can be interpreted as a blank record, causing errors or unnecessary data.
- Spreadsheet and CSV exportsBlank lines in an export can impair data reading: the record count no longer matches the content, and formulas or processes that depend on a continuous range can fail or stop at the first empty line.
- Content that arrived double spacedTexts copied from chats, comment threads, or web pages often come with unnecessary blank lines between lines. Removing them reduces excess spacing and leaves the content ready for editing, sharing, or reuse.
- Code, logs and configuration filesCode snippets gathered from different sources can accumulate blank lines between blocks. Reducing them preserves code readability, eliminates excess vertical space, and leaves the file cleaner.

Questions & Answers
A blank line is a line that exists in the text but has no content, creating only vertical space. A line break, on the other hand, is the character responsible for ending a line and continuing the text on the following line.
Yes. A line filled only with spaces or tabs appears empty on the screen and is also considered a blank line by the tool, as these invisible characters are responsible for creating the unwanted vertical space.
Use "Collapse extra blank lines". Any sequence of two, three or ten empty lines becomes a single one, and the blocks that were already separated by exactly one blank line stay untouched.
